Who: The Fitzwater 2000 Community Garden Association in partnership with Neighborhood Gardens Association and the Neighborhood Transformation Initiative have worked together to permanently preserve this award winning garden. It’s now in a land trust!
History: This garden was developed in 1995 from vacant lots to beautify the area, promote neighborhood cohesiveness, and combat urban blight. It has done all that and more! The garden has received many awards, including the Sweepstakes Award at the PHS Harvest Show and has also won First Place in the City Gardens Contest for over 10 years. We won again in 2010. Additionally, the garden was featured in the Art in City Hall program and has frequently been highlighted in the local press. Finally, a strong sense of community has developed through involvement in this garden and garden members have communally addressed a number of social problems.
The garden has now been permanently preserved through the communal efforts of the Fitzwater 2000 Neighborhood Association, Neighborhood Gardens Association, and the Neighborhood Transformation Initiative. Come celebrate!
